1 Who We Are

HolaCatalà is operated as an independent application by its founder, based in les Escaldes, Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra.

Andorra has an adequacy agreement with the European Union, and our data practices comply with the Andorran Law on the Protection of Personal Data (LQPD) and are aligned with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2 What Data We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service.

• Email address — when you create an account. Used for login and to contact you about the service.
• Password — stored securely as a hashed value via Supabase Auth. We never see your plain-text password.
• Learning progress — lessons completed, streak, points, achievements, word review history. Stored locally on your device and optionally synced to our database when you are signed in.
• Usage events — actions like lesson_started, lesson_completed, conversation_completed. Logged only when you are signed in. Used to understand how the app is being used and to improve it.
• Premium status — whether your account has an active subscription.
• Device and browser type — collected automatically by our hosting provider (Vercel) for security and performance purposes.

We do not collect your name unless you choose to enter it. We do not collect your location, phone number, or any sensitive personal information.

3 How We Use Your Data

• To create and manage your account
• To save and sync your learning progress across devices
• To process your subscription payment via Stripe
• To understand how the app is used so we can improve it
• To contact you about important updates to the service
• To respond to your support requests

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not share your data with any third party except those listed in Section 4 below, and only to the extent necessary to run the service.

4 Third-Party Services

We use the following trusted third-party services to operate HolaCatalà. Each has its own privacy policy.

5 Cookies and Local Storage

HolaCatalà uses your browser's localStorage (not traditional cookies) to save your learning progress locally on your device. This is essential to the functioning of the app — without it, your progress cannot be saved between sessions.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or any analytics cookies. Supabase Auth uses a session token stored in localStorage to keep you logged in.

You can clear your localStorage at any time through your browser settings, which will reset your local progress. Your cloud-synced progress (if you are signed in) will remain safe in our database.

6 Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete your email address, learning progress, and usage data from our systems within 30 days.

Stripe retains payment records for tax and legal compliance purposes in accordance with their own retention policies.

7 Your Rights

Under GDPR and Andorran data protection law, you have the following rights:

8 Children's Privacy

HolaCatalà is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9 Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS/SSL) for all data in transit, hashed password storage, and access controls on our database.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you believe your data has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

10 Marketing Communications

If you signed up on our waiting list or as a beta tester, you may receive occasional emails about HolaCatalà — including the launch announcement and important product updates. These emails are sent manually from aprencatalaapp@gmail.com.

To unsubscribe from marketing emails, simply reply to any email with "unsubscribe" in the subject or body, and we will remove you from future communications. Transactional emails related to your account (e.g. payment receipts, password resets) cannot be opted out of.

11 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify users by email. Continued use of HolaCatalà after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
